One often overlooked aspect of a stick is the pocket. If you find a used stick or have one at home from an older sibling, making sure its ready for play is a good idea. Our coaches can evaluate your pocket and make adjustments if needed.

2. Helmet

A lacrosse-specific helmet is mandatory for boys’ lacrosse. Helmets are designed with a face mask and chin strap to protect players from high-speed impacts. Make sure the helmet fits snugly and is certified by the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE).

3. Mouthguard

Mouthguards protect players from dental injuries and are required for all players during practices and games. Many leagues specify that the mouthguard must be colored (not clear) and attached to the helmet.

4. Shoulder Pads

Shoulder pads provide vital protection for the chest and shoulders. Since 2022, all shoulder pads must meet the NOCSAE ND200 standard to help protect against commotio cordis (a rare but serious heart injury). Ensure that the shoulder pads fit properly and meet this requirement.

5. Elbow Pads

Elbow pads shield the elbows and arms from bumps and inadvertent checks / hits, especially for attack and midfield players who are more likely to be targeted.

6. Gloves

Lacrosse gloves are designed to protect the hands while allowing for flexibility and grip. Look for gloves with reinforced padding and breathable materials.

7. Protective Cup

A protective athletic cup is mandatory for all male lacrosse players to guard against injury.

8. Cleats

The piece of required additional equipment is a throat guard and a goalie-specific stick.
