As we bid farewell to Coach Brian Legler, we celebrate a remarkable chapter in Herndon-Reston Youth Lacrosse’s (HRYL) history. Over the past five years, Coach Legler has demonstrated exceptional coaching prowess and embodied the spirit of sportsmanship and dedication that HRYL stands for.



An Impressive Track Record
Coach Legler achieved an extraordinary record, leading his teams to four consecutive championships with a stunning 46-5 record. This includes only one regular-season loss in five years, highlighting his exceptional ability to cultivate winning teams.
Dedication and Commitment
Analyzing his coaching journey reveals a testament to his dedication. Over five years, each season spanning eight weeks, Coach Legler devoted approximately 200 hours to HRYL, a commitment that underscores his passion for developing young athletes and men.
Impact on Young Athletes
Coach Legler has influenced the lives of over 80 lacrosse players through his in-season coaching and out-of-season leadership. His involvement extended beyond the regular season to leading boys during off-season opportunities such as the Fall Brawl tournament and various travel clinics. His positive impact is evident not just in their lacrosse skills but in the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance that he instilled.

A Family Affair
Lacrosse is a family passion for Coach Legler. His three sons have gone through the HRYL program, and at times, he had the unique opportunity to coach two of them on the same team. This family connection added a personal touch to his coaching, making his contributions even more special.
Building a Coaching Community
Coach Legler’s influence extended beyond just the players; he also established a dedicated group of male coaches who have remained with the program for many years. His leadership and camaraderie helped build a strong coaching community within HRYL, fostering an environment where experienced coaches mentor new ones and maintain the program’s high standards.
Moving Forward
As Coach Legler transitions to a new role as a JV coach at South Lakes High School, he will continue to guide and mentor some of the same players he coached at HRYL. This move ensures that his legacy will continue influencing the local lacrosse community, fostering growth and excellence in the sport.

Throughout his years with HRYL, Coach Legler exemplified the principles in the HRYL Code of Conduct.
